Jared on way to Honolulu

Friday morning, on a plane to Honolulu where I'll meet Gavin, Mai and Phil at the airport. We'll spend most of the weekend provisioning the boat: filling the water tanks, filling the fuel tanks, buying groceries, shopping for last-minute supplies, installing the sails, and finally, finding a place to stow everything. I spent some time deliberating over the packing, trying to settle on a reasonable compromise between having enough stuff to be prepared for anything versus traveling so light as to be unprepared for everything. It's difficult to do without the benefit of experience. Earlier this week I rode my bicycle to Point Reyes and camped for the night. Packing for that trip was easy and efficient because it's all familiar: what gear to bring, how much water I'll need, and what services are available along the way.
