Yesterday in the middle of the afternoon a very beautiful bird
came and landed on our solar panels. It was a little
smaller and much more sleek than a sea gull. Its head
was smaller with pretty orange and black markings. The
wings were long for the body size and the were more narrow.
A large light wing span for constant flying here out of
site of land.
In the middle of the night another bird landed on our
bow and stayed there for 4 hours until just before sunrise.
Yesterday evening the wind slowed to abut 6-8 knots and
moved more to the north. We had the large Code 0 sail up
but as the wind moved to the north our course began to change
away from California so we did something I have not done before
on this boat. We left the code 0 sail up because of its
large size and we unfurled the jib. The jib allowed us to
point higher and the code 0 sail kept our speed up.
Around midnight the wind picked up to nearly 20 knots
so we took the large code 0 sail down. That is how we
sailed until 5 AM when the wind died to nearly nothing.
So for about the last hour we have had the motor on.
Hopefully later in the morning the wind will build again.
We anticipate changing from the 130 jib to the 150 jib
which is larger and will allow us to point high.
Everyone is feeling good now and have their "sea legs" steady.
Jared is making bacon, eggs and something with the left over
stew. It smells good! The sky is clear and we anticipate
another hot day. Even though yesterday was very hot it cooled
nicely when the sun went down. A light jacket or fleece is
needed at night. No one is having problems sleeping during
their time off.
Conditions at 7:00 AM Wednesday morning:
Wind: 7.5 knots from 35 degrees (NNE)
